2 Days Classroom + 3 Days On Site

A comprehensive introduction to site engineering and surveying for those entering the profession. Build a solid foundation in the principles and practice of setting out and levelling.

Classroom (2 Days)

Principles of levelling and setting out. Introduction to surveying instruments including automatic levels and staff. Reading and interpreting basic engineering drawings. Health & safety on construction sites. Introduction to coordinate systems and grid references.

On Site (3 Days)

Practical levelling exercises on a live construction site. Setting out simple structures using profiles and string lines. Instrument handling, setup, and care. Recording and booking field measurements. Identifying and correcting common setting-out errors.

Prior Experience Required

No prior site engineering or surveying experience is required. A basic understanding of mathematics and an interest in construction or civil engineering is beneficial. Suitable for school leavers, apprentices, and career changers.

2 Days Classroom + 3 Days On Site

Designed for those with some site experience, this course advances your skills in precision setting out, total station operation, and the interpretation of complex engineering drawings.

Classroom (2 Days)

Total station operation, traversing, and resection techniques. Reading and setting out from detailed engineering drawings and CAD plans. Introduction to coordinate geometry and setting-out calculations. Quality assurance and tolerances in setting out. Digital data collection and transfer.

On Site (3 Days)

Setting out structural elements including columns, pile positions, and slab edges using total stations. Conducting and checking traverses on site. Setting out from design coordinates using CAD data. Practical exercises in as-built surveys and deviation reporting.

Prior Experience Required

Candidates should have a minimum of 6 months' practical site experience in a construction or civil engineering environment. Familiarity with basic levelling and an understanding of engineering drawings is expected. Completion of the Introductory course or equivalent is advantageous.

2 Days Classroom + 3 Days On Site

For experienced site engineers and surveyors seeking to master complex setting-out techniques, BIM integration, and the legal and contractual dimensions of engineering surveying.

Classroom (2 Days)

Complex setting-out methodologies for tunnels, bridges, and high-rise structures. BIM and 3D model integration with site survey workflows. Legal and contractual responsibilities of the setting-out engineer. Introduction to GNSS and machine control systems.

On Site (3 Days)

Advanced setting-out exercises using robotic total stations and GNSS equipment. Integrating BIM models with field survey data. Monitoring and deformation surveys. Managing setting-out records and as-built documentation to contractual standards. Peer review and quality sign-off procedures.

Prior Experience Required

Candidates should have a minimum of 2 years' experience as a site engineer or surveyor, with proven competency in total station operation and setting out from coordinates. Experience on major construction or civil engineering projects is strongly recommended.
